Pats hire Vetern coach Dom Capers

February 21, 2008 · Leave a Comment

The Patriots hired Vetern Dom Capers to coach their secondary. Capers coached with the Miami Dolphins last year as the defensive coordinator. Capers was the head coach of the Texans (2001-2005) and the Pathers (1995-1998). He was also the defensive coordinator for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Jacksonville Jaguars.

Billichick commented on the hire:

“I have known Dom for a long time and respect him tremendously as a coach, particularly defensively,” Patriots coach Bill Belichick said. “To add a coach of his caliber is an outstanding opportunity for us. I look forward to getting to work with Dom and (defensive coordinator Dean Pees) immediately.”

Great Great pick up by the Patriots. With all the change that is bound to happen in the secondary Capers will help the Patriots move along. A great defensive mind with years and years of solid experiences. Huge pick up by the Pats.

Slip, Sliping Away…..

February 21, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Up four with 2 minutes to go the URI Rams let the game and maybe their NCAA tournament hopes slip away. With 1;13 left and down by 1, A HUGE turn over by Seawright followed by a bone head intentional foul which lead to 5 points and that was all she wrote. Delory James was a star for URI, he contained Forbes all night and came up with some clutch points but it was not enough.  The Rams also played pourus defense throughout the night letting the Umass Guards drive to the lane with ease and allowing two WIDE open 3’s to seal the game.

Umass gets the edge over URI for a tourney bid and with URI losing 4 out of 5 they will need to sweep the rest of thier games and win a couple in the A-10 tourney to get a look for the automatic bid.  Another one slips away tonight.

URI needs to rebound after two big losses at home, they take on St. Joes on Sunday. Another huge game.

URI Vs Umass HUGE A-10 Clash- Preview

February 21, 2008 · Leave a Comment

The Rhode Island Rams host the Umass Minutemen tonight at the Ryan Center in a Huge A-10 match up with NCAA tournament implications.  The game will be on ESPN 2 and is sold out. Two weeks ago Umass beat URI by 2. Whoever wins tonight will get a big boost for an NCAA birth. URI has lost 3 out of 4 games and can not afford to stumble the rest of the way if they want to get into the big dance. Umass has lost 2 out of 3.

Student support is alive and kicking down in Kingston. Last night there were tents all around the Ryan Center to get tickets to the game tonight.

At the Xavier the student section was electric. Below a picture of Jason Coppa, who during every timeout runs around the stadium getting the crowd pumped up.

Key Player: URI- Jimmy Baron – SG – The former Bishop Hendricken High School (GO HAWKS) player has been swarmed by opposing A-10 defenses and he is having trouble getting up shots. He has averaged just over 7 shots a game and 8 points in the last four games compared to over 11 shots and 16 pts in the first 22 games. The Rams have lost 3 out of 4 of those games. If he can get open and get hot, look out. If not Parfee Bitee needs to have another big scoring night.

GO RHODY!

Randy Moss NOT franchised

February 21, 2008 · 1 Comment

According to John Clayton on ESPN NFL Live, Randy Moss has not been Franchise Tagged. If this is true the Randy will be able to sign with any team. Hopefully this means that Patriots are working out a 2-3 year deal with Moss. Moss could get huge money with antoher team, much more that I think the Pats are willing to give him. So does Moss stay with the Patriots to get his ring or sign somewhere else for the dough. Brady at season’s end was quoted saying whereever Randy goes is where I go.

According to league rules the Pats and Moss can not annouce any type of deal until Feburary 29th so they could have agreed on a new multi year deal but by rule can not annouce it. I hope that the Pats sign him to a 3 year deal, the trio of Brady, Welker and Moss as we have seen is electric. It would be a huge loss if Moss does not stay. That would mean two out of the three leading recievers last season (Stallworth, Moss) will not be back.
